• Exploration

One of the most successful exploration companies around
Wintershall Norge has an excellent exploration track record that is the cornerstone of the success of its Norwegian business. We have about 50 licenses in some of the most productive areas of the UK and the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Success is never certain in exploration, but the passion and knowledge of our geologists and geophysicists combined with the use of advanced technologies give us the greatest chance of striking oil or gas.

    EXPLORATION

Drilling is the only way of finding something, but before we commit ourselves we ensure we take into account all knowledge and information to help increase the odds. Our scientists review the seismic and other data and determine if a prospect is worth going for.

At Wintershall Norge we make things happen and we continually try to improve our impressive discovery rate. Over half of Wintershall’s worldwide exploration budget comes to the Norway asset. We are the main growth area for Wintershall.

  • Development

Launching the next phase in the Wintershall Norge adventure
Wintershall Norge’s expansion on the Norwegian Continental Shelf has already begun with the focus on the development of our own operated fields. Successful exploration and investment in development projects will require more engineers, more scientists and more support staff to reach our production goals.

To develop fields into production requires multi-skilled staff. In house expertise will cover exploration, detailed geology interpretation and modelling, reservoir engineering, facilities definition, drilling engineering and execution and project delivery. We have recruited and will continue to recruit skilled personnel who have the ability to contribute to development decisions and planning of successful field developments. Cooperation with license partners and authorities is of great importance in this work.

  • Drilling & Wells

    Supporting our ambitious goals
Wintershall Norge’s drilling and wells operation is crucial in our determination to become a leading operator. The technology and skills in the department underpin the work done by our exploration, development and production teams and will be key in reaching our goal of producing 50 000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) a day by 2015.

We believe in making things happen by maintaining the skills necessary for the planning and execution of complex and expensive drilling operations, forging a productive and fair relationship with all our partners and suppliers, and maintaining an uncompromising attitude to HSE.

Since 2008, when Wintershall bought Revus Energy, the Drilling and Wells department has grown from a total of six to more than 30 personnel. That has allowed us to maintain our commitment to drilling between 3-4 operated wells per year, including our first high pressure high temperature (HPHT) well. We have secured long term rig contracts with Transocean Arctic and Borgland Dolphin, and we are also preparing for development drilling on the Maria field.

HSE is at the core of the drilling operation. We have a proactive approach and work hard to reduce risk to an acceptable level.  We are well prepared if problems should occur and have a huge response team trained to handle any incident.

Working on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, means our people can be working amongst some of the most unforgiving environments anywhere in the world. We are uncompromising in our commitment to their health and safety.

We also recognise our responsibility in maintaining the delicate environmental conditions and work hard to minimise our environmental impact.

Production

50 000 boe per day
Wintershall Norge has ambitious plans to become one of the leading operators on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. During the second half of the decade we will begin to produce from our own operated developments. Before this we are pushing ahead with plans to own production of 50 000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) per day by 2015 from ongoing partner operated developments.

We are strongly committed to develope the NCS. To meet our goals we are prepared to invest in development projects to ensure production and infrastructure which could be in operation for decades. The transformation of the company from primarily exploration in 2006, to a fully integrated oil and gas company is already well under way.

In 2011, Wintershall Norge was producing 4 000 boe per day. By 2015 our goal is to produce 50 000 boe per day. It is the cornerstone in our ambition to become one of the leading operators on the NCS.

Business Development

Strategic and business development
The business development unit is responsible for commercial advice, strategic development and business development. Business development includes acquiring and divesting assets to optimise the portfolio. In all we do, the focus is on creating value in all phases of the energy cycle, from exploration and development, through to production.

Since Wintershall established itself in Norway in 2006, we have sought mergers and acquisitions which will help us reach our goal of becoming one of the leading operators on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

We work closely with the asset managers to establish the optimal commercial framework for each asset. We develop the strategy in close cooperation with the rest of the organisation.
Wintershall is an international active oil and gas company with operations in four continents, over 2.000 employees from more than 40 nations. We specialise in the exploration and production of natural gas and crude oil for the European market as well as natural gas trading. We are a subsidiary of BASF, the largest chemical company in the world.
